Kenyans Online Slam Ambassador Kyle McCarter for Taking Photo with Kids Who were Denied US Visas

Kenyans online criticized Ambassador Kyle McCarter for taking a photo with Kenyan school kids who were denied US visas.

Ambassador McCarter posted the photo on Twitter saying he met the two kids at the American Embassy in Nairobi.

McCarter said the two Kenya Chess Champions were seeking to travel to the US but their visa applications were rejected. He said he gave them a word of encouragement.

“In the visa line yesterday I met this fine young boy and girl. They are Kenya Chess Champions!"

“Although a trip to the US was not possible this time I reminded them that They Are Champions & we are friends! This is the future of Kenya,” McCarter captioned the photo.

Kenyans on social media questioned why the Ambassador could not intervene and help them acquire visas instead of 'parading' them on Twitter.

@ngindahiram said: “Interesting to see your administration continues to deny a visa to eligible applicants."

McCarter defended himself, stating that qualifications for visa applications are constant and do not vary from a person to another.

"Applicants are eligible or not. Qualifications do not change," said McCarter.

@Princenzee noted: “What hope?? Denying young kids Visa to go compete is bad."

McCarter replied: “They are children. You don’t know the situation of their parents or guardians. We take all cases seriously."

@yourpennfully said: “Jeez why did you deny them visas? They were ONLY GOING TO PLAY CHESS & RETURN? or did you have reason to think they would go underground despite their YOUNG AGES? sad sad.”
MorWhy were they denied visa that wud have facilitated them represent Kenya in the tourney? And why tell us that they were denied...case of rubbing it in

Blacks and Kenyans in particular always want to get ruling in their favor.securing a visa to US is not part of your constitutional right but might be a previledge if there were discrepancies in the applications do you expect the consular to override and just stamp visa? By the way those are mere chess players with possibility of overstaying or simply end up enrolling into American public schools under pretex that Kenyan schools are horrible and their lives back home are in danger.there is an ongoing African cup of nations tounarment in Egypt, every match I try to watch on TV what I see is just an almost empty stadium with a couple of hundred fans dancing like wild animals, now guess what? If Euro or UEFA finals were held in the same venues, black Africans would be complain that it's almost impossible getting a ticket because every match is sold out in seconds. Africans are far behind both mentally the best they would do is hate and complain even after securing white peoples education and civilization , our rotten politicians blame Chinese in ripping off our economy but they won't credit them for standard railroad or even highways or stadiums constructed by the same Chinese no matter our country has uncountable so called engineers some with Ph Ds ( well had almost 150 of them just last week). Honestly as I said before and I say again, Sir God wasn't serious in his creation of blacks,he was just kidding!!.
Alright Welcome aboard everybody.

👆🏿The above is a case of self hate. When did Africans celebrating soccer start "dancing like wild animals." I suppose whites celebrating the same and dancing the same would be "the soccer fans" who fill up the soccer stadiums. I have been watching the same and I wish the volume could be better and should capture the cheering fans and they should stop showing the empty spaces and concentrate on those who showed up. This is a case of poor programming not fans. Thats how they fake it in Europe.

Waswahili husema, "Usikate tamaa." Nami nakuomba usiwavunje watoto hawa mioyo yao kwa kuwanyima kibali cha kushiriki kwenye mchezo huu ambao wameonyesha dhahiri ya kwamba wao ni mabingwa katika nchi ya Kenya.

Hmmmmm.... are they are scared the Kenyans will come and dominate the chess because we can do that. well you can close that door for these kids but you did not take kenyan pride away. plus can you refund their application fee since you were worried about their parent situation.

Feeling sorry for those kids. Even though it's not their right, they have a definite reason to visit US and expand their talents. The future of our nation is in the hands of young people. I honestly don't understand about the visa issuance. But taking pics with such kids is just sarcastic especially after denying them.

kenyans have corruption mentality. just because they were denied visas doesn't mean he can't be friendly, c'mon. nobody saw the documents they provided so that might be to blame.

When you hire qualified workers, train them properly, and provide them with good tools, you have confidence in their work. The Ambassador is well aware that these kids were denied visas based on current guidelines. It's not his place to second-guess his staff or show favoritism. It's called professionalism and Kenyans could definitely use more of that.

US sio Kenya,it doesn't matter who u know. I tried visa for my mother in law, I even seeked senator help from my state, but eventually she got denied...x2.

Ambassador Kyle McCarter can we know why they were denied visa. These kids were going represent Kenya so it is not a personal matter between them and the embassy. Kenyans would like to know why they were denied representation at an international event.

@Guest#13 the U.S. State Department does not comment on individual cases. They respect decisions made by their very capable staff. It is clear that those kids did not qualify for a US visa based on their interviews and submitted documents. There is a very scientific process in place to award or deny visas. The Ambassador recognises that his empowered employees made their determination based on solid evidence or lack thereof. I know it's hard for Kenyans, especially in these days of government dysfunction, to appreciate and respect standards and process.

For those who follow sports,Timonthy cheruiyot,a1500m silver medalist, and a leader in the on going diamond league series, with his coach they were told to disembark the plane ,and head to the American embassy for explanation. The good news is that whatever it was has been fixed, and he will line up to defend his 1mile title at the prefontaine diamond league this weekend.
The details of the incident have not come out yet,but remember that this fellow goes all over the world, and has run in USA before.May
Be this will be easier for the ambassador to explain. Ihope that this disruption does not mentally affect his race.Good luck Tomothy.Defend your title successfully. Is something we dont know going on at the us embassy?
