State House Slams Kenyan Media over Misleading Reports on SGR Loan

State House has refuted reports claiming that Sh368 billion Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) loan was part of President Kenyatta's recent trip to China.

State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita says SGR loan was not part of President Uhuru's agenda during the meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing last week.

Waita was responding to reports appearing on a section of local media claiming that Kenya's bid to secure the loan for the extension of the railway from Naivasha to Kisumu flopped.

"It is very disappointing to read excerpts from the newspapers. The President cannot be said to be returning home empty-handed for something he did not request," states Waita.

Waita has termed the reports as factually incorrect and misleading.

"The Government of Kenya did not discuss any funding proposals for the extension of the SGR at the meeting. The SGR project is a regional project and the complexities in negotiating its completion involve several countries and securing financing for its completion could take several years of intricate negotiations," he adds.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma has also lashed out at the press over their reporting on the SGR loan deal.

"In fact, the SGR extension beyond Naivasha was never a priority agenda for the current mission to Beijing," says Juma in a tweet.

Spin, spin and spin again but the truth is out there. Why was the high priest of infrastructure in Africa part of the delegation. But the Chinese don't eat avocados? There is no single Chinese dish that uses avocado. You know that avocado deal could have been signed by the ambassador the was no point taking a whole delegation. Pombe tu! Useless. Worst president ever!

If the SGR is so profitable, why doesn't Kenya use the income from the one that was completed to fund the new one? Why borrow more? Kenya does not need new loans until corruption comes to a halt. Even with loans, Kenyans are dying of hunger. Why not die of hunger without incurring those foreign loans.
Until this government starts to put value on its own citizens before putting it on foreigners, Kenya will remain colonized, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually

The president would have been given credit for securing the loan if the agreement had been completed during his trip. I doubt his mouthpieces would be saying what they are saying now. It's therefore only fair if he is blamed for failing to secure the loan at this time.
And so what if the papers say what they are saying? He deserves the criticism for all the other failings. How do they sleep at night with people dying of hunger in 2019? And reports of grand corruption every other day?
Stop complaining. Something's come with the territory.

Fortunately, things are not done in China the way we do things here! Some countries are better organized & their leaders get the blessings of their citizens! They don't rush to get cash without proper structures! Two blind mice!I think it's time we start repossesing what these leaders have stolen from us!

That is right Andrew! Kenya is the only country that passes a law or by-law overnight without even consulting different stakeholders, and expect wananchi to follow it to the letter the following day, even before they understand a thing about it. For example, Huduma number was a brilliant idea, but was implemented so hurriedly without even doing feasibility studies,. We still have ID numbers, IDs, Pin, etc name it and they still want to implement the NAMBA without explaining what role the other numbers will play. Bure kabisa!
