Police Impound Fake Sh32.6 Billion Notes, Gold in Ruiru
Police have seized counterfeit currency amounting to Sh32.6 billion hidden in a residential house in Ruiru town.
Ruiru police commander James Ng'etich says 70 kilograms of suspected fake gold has also been impounded during an operation carried out on Wednesday by detectives from the special crime prevention unit.
Police have linked the fake currency and gold to con suspects accused of mimicking President Kenyatta's voice to defraud a Nairobi businessman of Sh10 million.
Police say the fake money is in different denominations including United States dollars, euros, pounds, and Kenya shillings.
"We found 840 million Euros, one million sterling pounds, 324 million US dollars and one million in local currency all amounting to Sh32.6 billion of fake currencies."
“We have also managed to recover about 70 kilos of fake gold," says Ng'etich
Nge'etich says the operation was launched after the interrogation of seven suspects accused of conning unsuspecting Kenyans while posing as President Uhuru.
The seven include; Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wanjekeche, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja, and Anthony Wafula.
"Officers from the special crimes prevention unit were pursuing some leads following a case which is at Kilimani where some suspects were arrested after obtaining money from a member of the public."
Joseph Munyao, his wife Ruth Kalee, and Nancy Muthoni Muchori have been arrested in connection with the fake currency.

I watched the Video +254 Police were handling the crime scene casually tempering evidence without protective..one wonder how far has this gone. When CBK limits 1M cash transaction to verify how and where the money is going it makes sense though.
