Malik Obama's Wife Blocked from Former US President Barack Obama's Meeting with Family Members

Drama ensued outside Mama Sarah Obama's homestead in Kogelo, Siaya county on Monday morning after Malik Obama's wife was denied entry.

Sheila Anyango, the wife to former US President Barack Obama's half brother Malik, wanted to access the home, where Obama (Barack) was holding a meeting with family members ahead of Sauti Kuu Foundation event.

Obama landed at the Kisumu International Airport from Nairobi before heading to Kogelo, where he presided over the launch of various projects done by Sauti Kuu, an organization established by her sister Auma Obama. 

When he arrived in Kogelo, Obama first went to his grandmother's home for a session with members of the Obama family. Only authorized persons were allowed to enter the homestead.

Ms Malik was turned away by security officers manning the gate as she didn't have a tag to show she was an accredited guest.

Malik is said to have a strained relationship with Obama and has in the past openly criticized Obama over differences in ideologies.

In 2016, Malik reportedly accused Obama of neglecting his family in Kenya and caring little about Africa. He also publicly endorsed Obama's successor Donald Trump for the US Presidency even as his brother rooted for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

“President Obama is my brother and I love him, but he is a hypocrite. He wants nothing to do with Africa despite campaigning on a platform of helping to transform the continent,” he said at the time.
