Machakos Governor Mutua Asks President Uhuru to Order Lifestyle Audit On All State Officials
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has asked President Kenyatta to order a lifestyle audit on all government officials.
Speaking in Machakos, Mutua said the audit should target Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Governors, Senators, Members of Parliament as well as senior civil servants.
He said that those who fail to explain their source of their wealth after the audit should have the assets seized by the State.
“I am asking President Uhuru Kenyatta and agencies concerned with the fight against corruption to immediately institute lifestyle audit of all elected, nominated or appointed leaders in our country because we have seen people with so much money that we cannot understand,” he said.
“Those who will fail to explain how they acquired their fabulous wealth should have the properties confiscated and returned to the people of Kenya who are the rightful owners.”
Mutua's call comes in the wake of scandals that have rocked different government department and ministries including National Youth Service, Kenya Power, Kenya Pipeline Company and National Cereals and Produce Board among others.
The Governor further noted that it was absurd that some individuals in the country owned choppers, huge chunks of land and other properties worth billions yet they earned modest salaries from their full time jobs.
“Those stealing are near you and are maligning your name through their actions, deal with them ruthlessly and show Kenyans there are no sacred cows in your administration,” the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader told President Kenyatta.

This issue was raised awhile ago,but I think it got no where.RememberMpigs were supposed to declare their assets and sources.Most opposed;then the issue just died.Yes, all high ranking public officials must make their assets/wealth,and their sources public.If they dont want to meet this condition, then move to private sector.

The attitude with us Kenyans is the use of "them" attitude and not "us". All Kenyans over 18 years whether employed or not should have their lifestyle audit accessible to all. Yes, it should be a public record. This way, all Kenyans would have a record, a very long one showing how they got rich or poor and how others managed to acquire billions of shillings having started from say Gikomba. Special interest would be paid to those interested in running for public office. With that kinda trail, it would be hard to cheat Wanjiku.

Please educate yourself before posting dumb comments. Why should we do a lifestyle audit when we can easily, VERY, VERY EASILY FIX our financial system so no one can STEAL OUR money??!! This problem has been solved for DECADES now!!
The truth is you can minimize the culture of corruption but you can never eliminate it. If Uhuru's cousin owns a construction company probability is he gets the contract. So long as the road is built, who cares? If I want to sponsor an MP/Governor who will help me get richer, so what? Next election vote him out. People will always try to take advantage of the system.
The impunity with which some people in Kenya are able to empty our money straight into their pockets would not be possible without the blessings of the President. That is the simple truth. Let's stop all the BS and admit this fact so we can solve this problem.

One, corruption is a cultural problem that requires continuing effort. Educate people, put a morals clause in every government contract, encourage openness, reward ethical employees and have a zero tolerance for those who dont follow the rules. There will always be people who try to take advantage of the system. This fight never stops.

Two, stealing money from the public is a completely different problem that can be solved today. There is tons of very effective and secure financial and accounting solutions out on the market. The fact that Uhuru continues to allow this to happen says a lot about him and I for one refuse to keep pretending that he is clueless.

Time has come for Mutua to tell Kenyans how he raked shs 400m.for starting "NAJIVUNIA KUWA MUKENYA" slogan during the Kibaki/Raila looting era.Jambazi Mutua paid himself the money for uprooting flowers and replacing them with QUARRY CHIPS in Nairobi roundabouts and along UHURU HIGHWAY.He was the govt spokesman then.
