Government Puts On Notice Illegal Foreigners in Kenya

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has put on notice foreigners living illegally in Kenya, saying that they will not be spared.

Speaking in Nakuru County on Wednesday, the Interior CS said the crackdown on foreign nationals in the country without proper documentation will continue until they are all flushed out.

Matiang'i asked foreigners in the country to verify their statuses in the ongoing 60-day registration and verification exercise at the Immigration headquarters at Nyayo House in Nairobi.

He said an operation will be launched after the conclusion of the exercise and any foreign nationals caught without permits will be deported.

“We cannot continue allowing people who do not have proper documents (work permits) to run businesses  and do jobs which Kenyans can do."

“The upsurge of illegal foreigners in the country is the reason behind unemployment in Kenya,” stated Dr Matiang’i.

Matiang'i spoke when he oversaw the destruction of illegal gambling machines at Gioto dumpsite in Nakuru. He also banned the importation of the machines.

“The machines will not be allowed in the country and agencies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Bureau of Standards and Kenya Airports Authority are aware. We have alerted every relevant agency to make sure the machines do not leave the port of Mombasa to get to our children,” the CS said.
