Harambee Stars One Win Away from Historic CHAN Semi-Final

Kenya’s Harambee Stars is on the brink of a historic achievement as they prepare to face Madagascar in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-finals this afternoon at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

A capacity crowd is expected, with national anticipation reaching fever pitch ahead of a match that could mark a defining chapter in the country's footballing history. More than just a sporting contest, the occasion reflects years of preparation, tactical progress, and widespread public backing. Kenya’s progress to the knockout stage has been remarkable. Emerging from a competitive Group A, the team has exceeded expectations with disciplined defending and effective attacking play.

Key victories over DR Congo, Morocco, and Zambia have not only strengthened their campaign but also reignited national belief in the team’s potential. The significance of this moment is reflected in President William Ruto’s pledge of major incentives for the players, including a substantial financial reward and a two-bedroom house for each squad member.

This transformation has been led by head coach Benni McCarthy of South Africa, whose strategic approach has brought stability and cohesion to the squad. Under his guidance, the Harambee Stars have conceded only one goal in the group stage. McCarthy has acknowledged the challenge Madagascar pose, but insists his players must remain focused and committed throughout the match.Madagascar, who finished second in Group B behind Tanzania, bring their own strengths to the tie. Veteran goalkeeper Michel Ramandimbisoa has been key to their campaign, while creative midfielder Lalaina Cliver Rafanomesantsoa adds attacking flair and scoring potential. Coach Romuald Rakotondrabe, drawing confidence from his side’s third-place finish in the last edition held in Algeria, has expressed optimism despite the formidable task ahead.

The absence of suspended midfielder Chrispin Erambo presents a setback for the Harambee Stars, but forwards Ryan Ogam and Austine Odhiambo are expected to lead the attacking charge. A recent CAF decision to increase stadium capacity to 36,000 will ensure strong home support, providing a vital boost to the Kenyan side.
