CAF Threatens Relocation of Kenya CHAN Games Over Security Breaches

Kenyan fans planning to watch the Harambee Stars play  Zambia at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday are advised to arrive at Kasarani Stadium at least five hours before kickoff, according to the organising committee.

The Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, has been placed under heightened security following breaches during the previous match. Unauthorised entry and subsequent damage to the stadium have triggered a rigorous intervention by CAF, which includes capping attendance figures and mandating digital ticketing.

Nicholas Musonye, chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), is spearheading efforts to implement these new measures, stressing that only e-tickets purchased through official channels will grant access.

CAF response include imposing restrictions on ticket sales and reducing capacity to approximately 27,000. Furthermore, CAF has demanded a nationwide media campaign to reinforce safety protocols, warning of potential relocation of future fixtures should Kenya fail to comply.

The LOC is attempting to offset the reduced stadium capacity by establishing official fan zones across Nairobi. These venues aim to provide a secure and festive alternative for supporters, offering a much-needed outlet for fans who cannot secure tickets for the match.
