Body of Kenyan Woman Fatally Stabbed in UK Arrives Home for Burial

The body of Linner Sang, a Kenyan woman who was fatally stabbed in Reading, United Kingdom, earlier this month, arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Friday night.

Sang, a former teacher, had moved to the UK in late 2023 to pursue further studies. On 7 September, she was reportedly attacked following a domestic dispute with her husband, Edwin Kiplangat Yegon.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that Yegon, 29, has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The incident occurred at the couple’s shared residence in Reading, where Sang had returned to collect her belongings after an earlier disagreement.

She was accompanied by a friend at the time. Investigators stated that Sang had left the flat on 3 September after a domestic argument. When she returned four days later, a second confrontation escalated into violence. Neighbours responded to cries for help, and Yegon allegedly fled by jumping from a window.

He was later found near a river, where he was reportedly attempting to take his own life. Before relocating to the UK, both Sang and Yegon had worked as teachers in Kenya, Sang in Kesses and Yegon in Kericho.

Sang had recently secured a role as a social worker, while Yegon, who joined her on a dependent visa, was employed in the care sector. Their move was motivated by professional aspirations and the pursuit of greater stability.

Community organisations within the Kenyan diaspora in the UK have rallied to support Sang’s family, launching fundraising efforts to assist with funeral costs and ongoing needs. Her burial is scheduled to take place in Kericho County, where relatives and friends will gather to pay their respects.

Family members have described Sang as ambitious and compassionate, with a strong desire to support her loved ones and contribute to society.
