Kenya Set to Achieve First-World Status by 2055, Says President Ruto

President William Ruto has announced a plan to transform Kenya into a first-world economy by 2055, outlining a long-term development agenda focused on national unity and strategic investment.
Speaking at the 70th anniversary celebration of the African Inland Church Ziwani at Starehe Boys Centre in Nairobi, President Ruto described the country’s progress as both a patriotic duty and a moral responsibility. He said Kenya’s transformation would be achieved “by God’s grace, the efforts of our hands, the blessings of our plans, and the energy and unity of the people of Kenya.”
The President was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, among other senior officials.
Ruto’s plan prioritises key sectors including housing, healthcare, education, and agriculture, which he identified as essential to achieving inclusive growth and long-term stability. He expressed confidence in Kenya’s ability to meet these goals, citing the country’s skilled population, natural resources, and institutional capacity.
“We have what it takes—the ideas, the plan, the people, and the resources,” he said.
To build national consensus around the agenda, the President has held consultations with a wide range of political leaders, including Members of Parliament, opposition leader Raila Odinga, and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi. These engagements are part of a broader effort to align the country’s political leadership behind a shared vision for economic advancement.
By setting 2055 as a target, President Ruto has established a long-term benchmark for development that will influence national planning beyond his term in office. Analysts note that meeting this goal will require consistent investment in infrastructure, innovation, and governance, as well as the ability to navigate global economic challenges.
