Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga is embarking on a two-day event in his Nyanza backyard.
Dubbed the Piny Luo Extravaganza, the gathering includes the unveiling of a new council of elders' chairman and has several political undertones. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga noted that the event will bring the Luo nation together to discuss their shared heritage, culture, and plans for the future. The occasion comes hot on the heels of a series of ODM activities in the region, led by the organization's top leadership and legislators. The first two meetings were held in Gem and Nyatike constituencies.
At the event, Mr Odinga, the chief guest, will be assessing the accomplishments of the community over the years and any possible losses as they chart their way forward. This will be the third edition since the event was launched in 2016, and in the past, Odinga's speeches concentrated on matters of national importance and the need to remain resolute in the battle for freedom. This is the first time the former Prime Minister is confronted with a considerable amount of opposition in his home region, coming from a multitude of leaders, including those who were elected as part of his ODM party.
A few of the elected officials who have declared their support for President Ruto's government in spite of ODM's wishes are Gideon Ochanda (Bondo MP), Mark Nyamita (Uriri MP), Paul Abuor (Rongo MP), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem MP), Caroli Omondi (Suba South MP), David Ochieng' (Ugenya MP) and Professor Tom Ojienda (Kisumu Senator). Some former ODM governors and MPs in Nyanza have also pledged their loyalty to President Ruto, such as Jack Ranguma (Kisumu governor), Okoth Obado (Migori governor), Evans Kidero (Nairobi governor) and Nicholas Gumbo (Siaya governor aspirant).
Mr Odinga's supporters have rebutted objections to the Azimio leader's influence in the area. During his visit to Gem last week, MP Wandayi declared that any attempts to challenge the ODM leader would be gunned down. He asked those who are dissatisfied with Odinga's leadership to leave and set up their own political parties.
Bribing & threatening government employees is an “On-slaughter”??
Unless Kalejinga Ruto has caused a complete overhaul of the Luo culture, the media should cease and desist from spreading these delusions and hallucinations.
Kalejinga Ruto is not a Luo he will never be a Luo Kingpin.
He will never be a kikuyu king pin or a pin of any other tribe.
These are lies.
