President Ruto on Thursday hosted Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli at State House, Nairobi.

Atwoli was among the fiercest critics of Ruto during the campaign period and had predicted he would lose the election to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

During the State House meeting, Ruto and Atwoli discussed Kenya's ratification of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)'s Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (C190).

Adopted in June 2019, C190 is the first international treaty to recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence and harassment. It came into force on June 25, 2021.

Through Twitter, Atwoli said he also requested an appointment with President Ruto for a meeting which brings together all COTU-affiliated secretaries.

"This morning I paid a courtesy call to H.E President William Ruto whereby we held discussions on Kenya's ratification of ILO C190 and outsourcing of labour. I also sought an appointment with the Head of State to meet and share with all @COTU_K Affiliated General Secretaries," he wrote.

Atwoli also attended a meeting between President Ruto and a section of leaders from the Luhya community at State House.

They included National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and former Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, among others.

Ruto will use this big mouth to get a stronghold on Luhya community against Raila. Very smart. Don't get mad get even!

We should discourage this type of meetings. They exacerbate tribalism. I reject them because their goals are driven by,"its our time to eat" mentality. How could Atwoli suddely embrace Ruto after hotly attacking him on behalf of Raila. I can Imagine RAO cursing and saying there is no honor among Luhyas.

It’s time for the fat Atwoli the fool to step aside!
