Kamiti Prisoner Who Conned a Jobseeker Sh800,000 Handed a Three-Year Prison Sentence

An inmate serving a life sentence at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison has been handed a three-year prison term for defrauding a jobseeker Sh800,000.

Patrick Amere Shikure was sentenced by Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo after he pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him. He admitted to fraudulently obtaining Sh800,000 from one Selina Vukinu Ambe after promising to help her to secure a job at State House.

Shikure confessed he used the name of Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa to defraud Ambe in 2020 while at the prison, where he is serving his life sentence for robbery with violence.

He received the money after promising the victim that he could help her secure a job as a Human Resource manager at State House.

Ambe reported the matter to police after she was turned away at the State House gate when she reported to start her new job.

In her ruling, the magistrate also directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate how electronic communication gadgets find their way into Kamiti, the most secured correctional facility in the country.

Amere used unknown communication gadgets to con Ambe between July and September 2020. The money was wired to the prisoner in different amounts to facilitate Ambe’s appointment to the State House job.

Ambe had been promised a monthly salary of Sh2.2 million as a human resource officer at State House, according to court documents. She was issued a fake appointment letter for the fake job and also promised an official high-end car and a fully furnished house with a gym within State House.

After defrauding people, Amere would send the money to his sister via MPesa to keep it for him.

Some prison guards and the warder must have got kitu kidogo for the game as they offer favours for something. DCI will do investigation and come out with nothing as by now everything is cleared out until further notice.

Some of these people deserve to be conned. Why would anyone send money to an unseen face in Kenya? I don't even pay my electric bill through M-Pesa.I demand the Power people to come to my bedsitter in full uniform and must show identification cards. Sipendi ujinga.

The Late Ndugu Muteshi

Are you aware that Ndugu Samoei was found guilty of stealing the land belonging to the late Ndugu Muteshi?
Why is he still running to be our next fifth president of the republic? Please, have the moral courage to do what is right by resigning your current position (IEBC) for the good of our country. When? NOW!
