MP Tim Wanyonyi Formally Launches Bid for Nairobi Gubernatorial Seat

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi on Sunday formally launched his bid for Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general election.

Wanyonyi, who will contest for the seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, said he has enough experience to lead Nairobi, having served as an MP and councillor for 15 years.

He pledged to transform the Kenyan capital city to realize its potential as the region’s business and travel hub.

“Fellow residents of Nairobi, I speak not from mere theory but a firm knowledge and understanding of the affairs of Nairobi. Having served in Nairobi County for a total of fifteen years, I am well aware of what residents of Nairobi require and I will fix it!”

“My administration will promote the ease of doing business within the city by reviewing and harmonizing existing taxes and levies, fostering digitalization of all county levies,” Wanyonyi pledged.

Wanyonyi joins Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and former Starehe MP Bishop Margret Wanjiru, who have declared interest in the seat.

Nairobi has remained without a substantive governor since the impeachment of Mike Sonko in December 2020 on grounds of gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, and crimes against national law.

Deputy Governor Ann Kananu is expected to be sworn in as the county’s third governor on Tuesday after the Supreme Court quashed an appeal by Sonko challenging her swearing-in.
