DJ Evolve Collapses After Receiving News of His Mom's Death

The family of Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve, is mourning the death of his mother Mary Hongo.

Hongo is reported to have experienced breathing difficulties before collapsing at her home in Nairobi’s Lucky Summer estate on Wednesday. She took her last breath while being rushed to the hospital, according to her husband John Orinda.

“I was not at home at the time when the incident took place. Everything happened so fast but we have it to God,” said Orinda.

He noted that his wife was not ailing and has been taking care of their son DJ Evolve, who was shot and wounded by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at B-Club in Kilimani in January 2020.

Reports indicate that DJ Evolve collapsed immediately he received the news about his mother’s demise, throwing the family into more shock.

Following the shooting, Orinda was admitted to Nairobi Hospital for six months and underwent multiple surgeries before he was discharged in June 2020 to recuperate at home.

MP Owino was arrested and charged with attempted murder and disorderly behavior while carrying a firearm. He denied the charges and was released on Sh5 million cash bail.

Last month, MP Owino said Orinda was doing well and could start walking soon.

“He will walk soon. He’s doing well. Imebaki kidogo tu atembee (He will be walking soon),” said Owino.

Poleni sana. It is too painful to see murderer Babu Owino walking free after shooting this DJ and almost killed him.
