Kenya Government Sued over 1998 US Embassy Bombing

The Kenyan government has been sued over the August 7th, 1998 Nairobi US embassy bombing.

In a petition filed at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, Kituo Cha Sheria and five others are seeking compensation for victims of the bomb blast.

The petitioners argue that their loved ones were killed and/or injured in the attack, adding that their lives have never been the same as they have gone through pain, sadness, anger, stress, and trauma.

They further noted that, unlike the US which pursued compensation from Al-Qaeda assets and the BNP bank for its citizens, the government of Kenya has been unwilling to do the same for its citizens, leaving them aggrieved.

“While some of the victims including the United State Government employees killed or injured in the August 7th attack have been compensated and awarded, (we) have been excluded from the compensation on grounds that (we’re) neither American citizens, employees or contractors,” read court documents.

The petitioners further argue that the government and its machinery were negligent and failed to stop the smuggling of money into Al-Qaeda cells, which was ultimately used to finance the attack.

213 people were killed in the Nairobi blast while 4,000 others sustained injuries.

The American government, the parents of the Garissa university , the parents of the KDF soldiers killed in El adde & the parents of the soldiers killed in Manda bay should all sue the Kenyan government.

They all have a case.

The Kenyan government negligence contributed to the death of all those people.

I dont know how the government would have succeeded in stoping teh smuggling of money into Al Queda cells.AlShabab is terrorizing Kenyans.Kenya cannot do much to stop funds being funneled through Somalia...
As for compensation, certainly they should get something.Iam even surprised that it has taken this long.

More people should come out and sue the government.Hungry billionaire Kenyans always employ thugs from president to sub-chief’s messanger because they have a lot of excess cash to “waste.” It’s good idea to get something back.
