Sirisia MP John Waluke Convicted of Fraud in Sh297 Million Scandal

A Nairobi court has convicted Sirisia MP John Waluke of fraud in relation to a Sh297 million maize scandal.

Waluke was found guilty on Monday alongside his co-accused businesswoman Grace Wakhungu with trial magistrate Elizabeth Juma ruling that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The two were accused of irregularly receiving Sh300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board, (NCPB) in 2004 through their company Erad Suppliers Ltd.

The court was told that the accused persons received the funds after supplying 40,000 tons of white maize to NCPB.

Magistrate Juma in her judgment noted that evidence showed they forged an invoice to demand payment of the money charged as storage fees for the maize allegedly imported from Ethiopia. The court acquitted Waluke of two other counts among them uttering a false document.

She directed the two be detained at Kileleshwa Police Station pending sentencing on Thursday, June 25th.

Waluke is listed as a co-director of the Erad Suppliers Ltd alongside Grace Wakhungu, who is the mother to Kenyan ambassador to France and former Environment CS Judi Wakhungu.
