Kenyan Uber Driver Charged with Selling Employer's Sh700,000 Car for Sh248,000

A Nairobi Uber driver has been arraigned and charged for selling his employer’s vehicle without his knowledge after advertising it in a local newspaper.
The court was told that Meshack Kiambi, who had been employed as a driver by David Kimani, stole the car on May 23rd in Nairobi’s Kasarani estate.
He put the Toyota Passo car worth Sh700,000 on sale for Sh360,000 and later sold it for Sh248,000 to Geoffrey Ngunyi after forging its logbook.
Appearing before Makadara Law Courts senior resident magistrate Lewis Gatheru, Kiambi was charged with among other offenses, obtaining money by false pretenses.
He was further charged with making a document without authority with an intention to defraud.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him and was released on a cash bail of Sh150,000 or an alternative bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount.
The magistrate directed the car released to the owner. The case will be mentioned on July 7th, 2020.
