Kenyan Woman Evicted from Her House over Rent Arrears Gang-Raped as Her Kids Watch

A 27-year-old Kenyan woman who was recently evicted from her house by the landlord after failing to pay rent is appealing for help from well-wishers after she was gang-raped.

Jane (not her real name), took shelter in an unfinished building together with her two children after she was locked out of her rented house in Nairobi’s Mihang’o estate.

Speaking to K24 Digital, Jane said thugs ambushed her at the incomplete structure and gang-raped her in front of her children.

She said the assailants learned about her presence in the unfinished building after hearing cries from her three-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son at night.

Jane said she cried for help as the criminals sexually assaulted her but no one heard her screams because it was raining heavily at the time.

She disclosed that her landlord ejected them over rent arrears totaling Sh11,000. Jane said she hawks fruits along Mombasa Road but the outbreak of Covid-19 affected her income, making it hard to pay rent and buy food for her family.

She has appealed to people of goodwill to help her seek medical treatment following the rape ordeal as well as find shelter and food for her kids.
