Textbook Encouraging Kenyan Pupils to Commit Suicide Recalled After Uproar

A Grade Two textbook that appeared to encourage pupils to commit suicide has been recalled from the market after an uproar from parents.
The book, Smart Score Encyclopedia Volume 1 by Longhorn Publishers, also seemed to mock people with mental health problems in addition to having numerous spelling mistakes. Parents lamented that the book gave children inappropriate choices for real-life situations.
For instance, the book had a question reading: “Alice says she looks bad. What should you tell her?” The choices provided to pupils for this question included: 1. God loves 2. Kill herself.
Another question read: "Lucy and Margaret are sisters. Lucy is loved more by her parents. What should Margaret do? The choices provided are 1. Kill herself, 2. Do what her parents want.
Mental health advocate Jeff Khira said the rising cases of suicides by pupils in Kenya can be attributed to such classroom content.
“A child's thought process ends up wrongly structured by such knowledge fed to them at their early developmental phase,” Khira said through Twitter.
Longhorn Publishers CEO Maxwell Wahome announced the company had recalled the book and apologized for the mistakes.
“We take pride in providing high-quality learning materials to our customers, but in this instance, we failed. For this we are extremely sorry,” said Wahome.

My question is,how did a text book with so many errors make it to the class room?
Shame on those who perpetuate this mediocrity. Were teachers, parents, psychologists, and other stake holders give their input before the book ever even got to editing...?

Wow! An apology. This is new in Kenya. Most Companies would 'stand by their products', despite Public Criticism.

In a foreign language, such mistakes are expected. Only in our own languages, will we find truth and love for us and our people.
There is no mistake here; This is part of colonizing and destroying.
This is a time of Revelation and Restoration.
Let's watch and see; truth is being revealed. No more excuses.
Leave our children alone.

I agree with you @John...but parents, as well, should be more vigilant. Watching western/Nigerian and most movies where actors are scheming to kill others is all so kawaida ..."...I'll kill you/him.....nitamuua..." etc. Exposure is the best influence.

Wahome was thinking and dreaming in his mother tongue and directly translating it to the books. What are his credentials? Hii Kenya yetu jamani! Standards are so low. Any jerk can get their hands on lucrative tenders or deals to supply whatever the heck they want at the expense of our children. Bora pesa, si ndio? Nkt
