Alert Issued as Criminals in Luxury Vehicles Target Nairobi Gated Estates

A security alert has been issued in Nairobi following a string of home invasions linked to a group using a black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to access gated estates under false pretences.

Between 26 and 29 September, suspects reportedly posed as visitors or prospective tenants to gain entry into residential areas, including Parklands, Syokimau, General Mathenge, and Shanzu. The vehicle used in the incidents was seen with different number plates on separate occasions, indicating deliberate efforts to avoid identification.

On 26 September, the suspects attempted to enter a home on General Mathenge Drive but left after realising the homeowner was present. Two days later, the same vehicle, bearing different plates, was spotted at SSRoopra Estate in Parklands but fled before a break-in occurred.

That afternoon, the SUV transported individuals to Sunpark Residences in Syokimau, where they accessed an unoccupied apartment and stole household items. Later that evening, the vehicle returned to General Mathenge Drive and targeted the same residence.

Three individuals allegedly forced open the gate before escaping in the direction of Grevillea 3K. The following morning, the group appeared on Shanzu Road, claiming they were looking for a vacant unit, another tactic consistent with previous incidents.

Security officials note that the suspects’ use of a high-end vehicle and impersonation strategies suggests a level of planning that surpasses typical burglary operations. According to Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, the group is believed to be coordinating multiple break-ins across upscale neighbourhoods, taking advantage of relaxed access protocols in some estates.

In response, estate managers and security personnel are being urged to tighten access procedures. Recommended measures include verifying all incoming vehicles against approved guest lists, requiring resident confirmation for visitors, and ensuring continuous CCTV monitoring at all entry points.

Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities or estate security teams.
