US Donates Food Worth 340 Million Shillings to Kenya

The United States has donated food worth KSh.340 million to Kenya in support of the government’s efforts to address food insecurity.

The 18,300 metric tons of food aid arrived at the Mombasa port this week, the US announced through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Food for Peace (FFP).

The food will be distributed by the World Food Program (WFP) through the support of the US to more than 390,000 Kenyans in nine arid counties including Turkana, Baringo, Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Tana River.

In 2019 alone, the US has spent Sh10 billion on food security relief and long-term resilience-building among vulnerable Kenyans. The US says the food assistance reflects its strong commitment to the health and food security of Kenyans.

“The United States is committed to addressing the needs of Kenyans suffering as a result of devastating drought and severe food insecurity in the northern and eastern regions of the country," said US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter.

"USA Marafiki will continue these and other efforts to build resilience in Kenya to best support our Kenyan friends on their path to self-reliance.”

Does Kenya really need this food aid? Farmers are complaining about low price of milk, Maize etc to a point the have decided to feed maize to their livestock & pouring milk to the ground.

Corruption in Kenya is the greatest danger to food security. Over 300 billion shillings were stolen by politicians in the year 2019. I keep wondering when Kenya will ever be self reliant in food supply and security.

It is a very shameful thing for a country whose economy is based on agriculture to be begging for food from the US.

The billions stolen in 2019 alone could have been used to improve food production methods to cater for rapidly growing population.

A people with their own country and cannot feed themselves are useless, and he who feeds you, is your master.

Our food security should come from within and should never be trusted to a foreign government that calls us "Shit-hole countries"
To them we are "shit-hole" They will give us "shit-hole" food.
In the year 2020, no foreign government should be aiding us in food. They are disabling our farmers by providing us with food rejected in their countries. Jobs are created by needs in our communities. When our government brings foreigners to meet our basic needs, it destroy our jobs. It's time for our people to tell our government, " Do not create jobs for us, just stop the thieves that are stealing our jobs by bringing foreign things that we can make at home and foods that we can grow at home - because that's where jobs come from.
For the US, by creating dependency in our country they are creating power and need for themselves" so we can see them as our superiors and providers.
To be self reliant, we don't need any foreigners meeting our needs.
We do not need colonizers in our domestic affairs. Kenyan leaders need to wake up from their slumber!!!

340 Million? We need food urgently and thank God for those that have come to help the hungry who cannot for another rainy day, prospects of better planting seasons, subsidized farm inputs and better market prices. What a failed country! But we cannot the much-needed aid to prove a point.

Again I ask, what is wrong with wafrika?. What is stopping us from being self sufficient in our food production. We have the land climate and hopefully technocrats, and technology.
Time to stop being beggers.

This is so so unfortunate! Lack of vision and greed in leadership is what has caused all these mess! I often wonder how Athi and Tana river are wasted and they have the capability to make Kenya a self reliance country food wise... anyway I hope someone in dire need of food benefits from this...
