A high-end Nairobi hotel reportedly owned by retired President Moi’s family has been shut down after it was hit by floods.

The management of Lord Erroll Restaurant, which is located in Runda Estate, announced the hotel had been closed “until further notice” due to what it termed as “unavoidable circumstances.”

“Due to unavoidable circumstances, we would like to inform our valued guests that we will remain closed until further notice,” the restaurant said in the statement.

Photos shared on social media showed various sections of the exclusive hotel’s premises, including the main entrance, covered in floodwaters due to the ongoing rains.

The Moi family reportedly acquired the hotel in 2013 and after renovations; it was opened to the public. The hotel has won awards in the hospitality industry as well as reaching the four-star status.

The Lord Erroll is named after a British aristocrat who was killed and buried in the graveyard of St Paul’s Church, Kiambu. He was reportedly executed in 1941 for having a secret love affair with Lady Diana Broughton, the wife of British aristocrat Sir Jock Broughton.

The restaurant is known for hosting exclusive events and is frequented by Kenya’s elite, according to Nairobi News.
