29 Kenyans Killed by Floods in Last 3 Weeks
At least 29 Kenyans have been killed by floods caused by heavy rains witnessed across the country in the last three weeks, government spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna says.
Another 11,700 persons have been displaced and more than 10,000 livestock washed away during the same period.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Oguna indicated that Lamu, Kwale, and Garissa were the most affected counties.
He said the national government is collaborating with county governments and Kenya Red Cross to offer required help to the affected persons.
"There have been rescue operations enhanced to help those displaced to be taken to safe areas," said Oguna adding that distribution of food and other items has been enhanced.
This week, the meteorological department issued a warning of heavy rains in Central, Northeastern and Coastal parts of Kenya and asked Kenyans to be on the lookout for floods and landslides.
