Civilian Gun Owners Sue Interior CS Matiang'i for Revoking their Licenses

The Association of Civilian Gun owners has sued Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for revoking their licenses.

In a petition filed at Milimani Law Courts, the association wants Matiang’i’s directive that revoked their licenses be suspended pending hearing and determination of their petition.

Last month, the Cabinet Secretary disbanded the Firearms Licensing Board and ordered all civilian gun owners to undergo fresh vetting before being issued with new licenses.

Matiang'i further prohibited use of three types of firearm namely; Sterling-Patchett MK5, CZ Scorpion EVo 3 and MP5 by civilians, a move the group is opposed to.

“The firearms Act define a prohibited weapon as an automatic or semi-automatic firearm unless it has been modified to the satisfaction of the child licensing office," the association says.

The association also submits that Matiang'i violated the law by failing to appoint a representative of private gun owners to sit in the new Firearms Licensing Board.

“No representative from a private members group of lawfully registered gun owners was appointed,” the affidavits say.

If any of private citizens are lawfully allowed to carry guns, all citizens should be allowed to carry guns. Let the government issue guns to all citizens or allow citizens to make home made guns and register such guns. As we fight for human rights, we must make sure some citizens do not have undue advantage over others. Either the government take all private guns away or issue them to all. No discrimination. God give Kenya leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!
