Tob Cohen Murder Case: Lawyer Philip Murgor Accuses DCI of Leaking Arrest of Uhuru’s Cousin

Sarah Wairimu’s attorney Philip Murgor on Monday accused Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of defying a court order barring lawyers prosecuting the case and investigating teams from commenting on Dutch national Tob Cohen’s murder case outside court.
On Monday, Murgor told the court that he had learned that DCI disclosed information about the arrest of President Kenyatta’s kin to a journalist.
“There's a publication that a second cousin of President Uhuru Kenyatta has been arrested. I called the journalists and he said he was given the information by the DCI,” Murgor said.
He indicated he will be filing a suit against DCI for leaking information related to the murder case. The prosecution denied Murgor’s claims and said they would investigate the source of the leak.
Last week, the prosecution accused Wairimu, who is the main suspect in the murder of her husband Cohen, of contempt of court for speaking publicly about the case during his burial. During the funeral, Wairimu warned Cohen’s killers that their days were numbered.
Last Wednesday, Wairimu was escorted to Cohen’s burial by prison warders from Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
President Kenyatta’s uncle Ngengi Muigai, cousin Rtd. Captain Kungu Muigai, and former Gatundu North MP Patrick Muiruri were among notable individuals who attended Cohen’s burial at Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi.
