Kenyan MP Calls for Law to Ban Farting on Flights

A Kenyan Member of Parliament has called for the enactment of a law that bans farting on planes.

Rangwe MP Dr. Lilian Achieng Gogo argued that farting causes 'discomfort and insecurity' on flights, according to Daily Nation.

"There is one irritant that it is often ignored, and this is the level of farting within the aircraft. If this is not managed well it can cause discomfort and insecurity on board," she said.

She went on to outline how airlines can deal with the problem of passengers polluting the air aboard a flight.

"We should have systems of the food offered onboard and we should have basic medical systems that are able to reduce the level of gas that one can exude within the flight."

Gogo further recommended a restriction on the amount of alcoholic drinks airlines serve to customers on the flight.

"The drinking that happens in flights is terrible. It's worse than what happens here on the ground. We should have a system where we are able to manage and control. Also, people's medical history should be obtained before they are served certain alcoholic drinks for their own security."

The ODM MP made the remarks while the House was debating the adoption of a report on the consideration of the protocol to amend the convention of offenses and certain acts committed onboard flights.

MPs want basic systems introduced aboard airlifts to check the level of discomfort that passengers undergo through especially during long-haul flights.

The changes to the Montreal protocol of 2014 were tabled to the House on July 6th, 2019, by the government and have since been undergoing public participation by the National Assembly Transport Committee.

Is this what kenyan MP, are paid to do??, less than 1% of Kenyans will ever board a plane. If they are trying to regulate the alcoholic consumption let them start mtaani where the majority of kenyans are. Kenyan mps are paid for doing nothing, just oppressing mkenya. Uhuru k. Should feel very ashamed for this government

@Kama I agree, this Mpig is working on her comfort next time she boards going for benchmarking tours abroad. Perhaps she should stop working to concentrate more on her constitutes especially children and mothers some of whom need clean water, food, housing and school fees.

Kenyans should also be banned from picking their dirty disgusting noses in public ... its like a competition of who can dig deeper into the nose ... very disgusting ... also a law should be passed that all kenyans MUST use deodrant and toothpaste ... just walk into an elevator or matatu at 7 am in the morning and the stench of raw human sweat and stinking breath hits you in the face ... kenyans are very dirty and disgusting pple ... having said that, now lemmi go and pick my nose in the middle of the street and to keep up the KENYAN SPIRIT.

Ohlala, have we run out of pressing social problems?First of all,is this supposed to propel to an international ban?I take it that all these is aimed at adults who one way or the other are "rich" to afford but poor in hygiene...
Wow to call it asecurity issue is a big stretch.Hey its cheaper just to ride the smell out,or spray some deodorant, than implement policies that would bump up the airfare. Its the sulfur in the fart that stinks.May be a tablet could be invented ...
Of course like any one else who flies, and has relatives, and friends who fly as well,we want safe flights, but certainly farting is not an issue. I would be more concerned about patching the wing of a plane with "duct tape"before curtailing what adults should drink,or emit.
If all this fails, certainly a FART TAX will contain the matter/offense.

First taping up airplanes and now this!!!. I have to assume sniffer dogs will have to be deployed else I can see flight attendants being asked to sniff posteriors. All I can think is that right now are many villages in Kenya that are short an idiot. I suggest a village idiot repatriation act.

How will you know who has fart because most of them come out with no sound? Smell the butt of all passengers?

So MCA are being paid to discuss farting? Does she know why they crank up air conditioning on planes or what low class plane is she traveling on ? Maybe she should concentrate on sanitary improvement around the country instead of worrying about a 2 seconds fart . Bure kabisa

Three weeks ago, I was a passenger in a 20 person propeller plane ride from the coast to Wilson Airport. Someone decided to pass gas, not once but twice during the one hour flight. In such a confined claustrophobic space, I was not amused to wait out for the air to clear. That said, there are more pressing issues(no pun intended) in Kenya than regulating flatulent behavior during air travel.

And provide Sanitary pads for teenage girls who are being shamed for going through the course? All I hear about MPS
is increase in allowance this, allowance that and so on.....

This is one of the damndest thing I have heard from the Kenyan politicians this year.
Dr. Lilian Achieng Gogo, please address the following first.
Corruption
Insecurity
Social injustices
Illiteracy
Teen pregnancies
Health system
Then, maybe, you can talk about farting.
