Uproar as Former Gov't Official is Fined a Measly Sh600,000 for Stealing Sh12.9 Million

The Kenyan Judiciary has once again found itself on the spot following a controversial ruling in a case where a former government official had been charged with corruption.

Perminus Kamau Njoroge, a former cashier at the Ministry of Education, was arraigned in court on Tuesday and charged with unlawful acquisition of Sh12.9 million from the ministry in 2011.

Njoroge is accused of embezzling the taxpayers’ cash through fraudulent and irregular cashbook adjustments.

In a ruling, the court slapped the accused person with a fine of Sb600,000 or one-year jail term.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has, however, indicated his office will be appealing the ruling.

The ruling has angered Kenyans on social media, who have termed it as an insult to taxpayers.

Arnold Mutiti says: “Not a bad investment. He has like Ksh10 million to enjoy.”

Paul Gichia notes: “If the 12.98 M were recovered that fine is ok. Else that will be a joke.”

Baraka Baya writes: “Same sad stories, everyday!”

Bernard Kaibe states: “That’s a mockery to Kenyans 12millions and fine 600k it’s laughable.”

Wanjala Kevin observes: “Reasons why corruption will never end. What about the rest of the money? He should return it all then pay the damn fine with his money… Come on.”

Nyambura Karinga says: “Shame shame on Judiciary.”

Kiragu Maina explains:“Do the maths: 1. 2011 Njoroge took Ksh.12,980,000 from ministry 2. Putting his money into a SACCO, guaranteed 12% returns annually. No sweat! 3. Ploughing interest back annually, total to date is Ksh.32,138,002 4. He is fined 600k Profit=Ksh.31,538,002!Corruption is lucrative!”

Noordin Haji before that appeal, you need to launch an investigation to find out how much of the 12.98 million that Kariuki stole is in the ruling judge's pocket, the prosecutors and the defence attorneys. Kenyan's need to know that the judges, lawyers, leaders and the elite are in cohort - corruption operators and only a mass movement, mob justice can eradicate this filth. ARISE!!Our money, our sweat, our voice, RESIST!!!

The chief justice keeps stating how much he is doing to ensure that the judiciary is clean and responsive.

He should personally review this case and publish his findings.

The mwananchi who never went to law school and is not charged to balance power is able to see there is a discourage of justice.

Please Maraga, be serious with the sacred office and oath you took...
