All Kenyans to be Registered Afresh, President Kenyatta Says

All Kenyans will be registered afresh digitally and be given unique identification numbers, President Kenyatta has said.

Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with police commanders, regional coordinators and county commissioners at State House, Mombasa, Kenyatta says the unique identification number, referred to as Huduma Number, will be used by Kenyans to access to crucial government services.

President Uhuru says the new registration will enable the government to create a central database known as the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIMS), which will contain information of all Kenyan citizens as well as foreigners living in the country.

“For each registration, the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIMS) will generate a unique identification number which will be known as the Huduma number,” says President Kenyatta.

Kenyatta says the registration exercise will be supervised by county commissioners and will help create an authentic "single source of truth" on personal identity in Kenya.

"To enhance the progress made by the Integrated Population Registration System, my administration will complete a central master population database which will be the authentic ‘single source of truth" on personal identity in Kenya," he adds.

How much will it cost to register all Kenyans afresh digitally? There are rumors that the port in Mombasa will be taken by Chinese soon because Kenya cannot be able to pay back the loan. Are they going to borrow more money from China to finance this registration?

What happened to making the systems already in place work for the people instead going through all this process that is time and money wasting? How about waiting until renewal of IDs to implement all these measures? Passports renewal is in progress and already a mess because of high level of corruption at immigration offices now new IDs coming yet you have all the particulars of your citizens. Clean the house first.

This is just another corruption scandal waiting to happen. Kenyan govt keeps changing official documents - Passports, ID's, etc every 10 yrs or so and every time a humongous amount of money ends up in corrupt official pockets.

The idea is straight from a bar. After a few beers insecurity in Kenya was solved by introducing new registration.
So what is going to happen to the current ID's Stop and think!
