Kenyans Online React as Inspector General Joseph Boinnet Dons New Police Uniform Ahead of Official Launch

Kenyans online have once again dismissed as 'ugly' the new police uniform set to be officially launched during this year's Jamhuri Day Celebrations on December 12th.

This comes after photos of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet wearing the new uniform surfaced on social media.

In the photos posted on the National Police Service (NPS) Twitter handle, Boinnet is seen posing in the persian-blue shirt and trousers of the same color while seated behind his desk.

Kenyans on Twitter were quick to give their opinions about the new police gear whose prototype was unveiled by President Kenyatta in September.

@eric_lilies says: "The ugly uniform I have ever seen."

@MrDavidMwangi tweets: "How SAD. Yaani, Kenyans Said NO to this uniform and the NPS did not Listen."

@joemboko writes: "It's very ugly, i like the current uniform."

@ArapWalta notes:" That uniform is damn ugly."

@BMueni comments: "Horrible please go hide yourself,"

The police boss said the tender for manufacture of the new uniforms was awarded to the National Youth Service (NYS).

President Uhuru said the change of the uniform color from the current navy blue and jungle-green colors is meant to achieve “more visibility”.

Who is giving the contract to provide the new uniform? After 5 years they will change the color to give somebody else contract to provide the uniforms. Changing the uniform is a cash cow. Na corruption iendele kama kawaida

If the IG's uniform is this ill-fitting how badly do we expect the lowest in the rank to look like. Besides the color, look at the collar, the sleeves and buttons all are out of proportion from my view. Something is wrong with the designer/tailors. Our officers need to look sharp and meticulous.

The old uniform was much better. If the intend was to improve moral, and clean the ever corrupt police force, uniform is not the way to go. Better selection, better training, harsh punishment for crooked cops, better housing,a little more income, and education. This would certainly improve the forces,in whatever uniform.
