Chris Kirubi's Special Request to President Uhuru Ahead of Meeting with Trump

Kenyan billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi has sent a special request to President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of his meeting with United States President Donald Trump.

President Kenyatta left the country for US on Saturday morning in company of First Lady Margaret and will hold talks with Trump at the White House on Monday.

In a message posted on his official Twitter handle, Kirubi pleaded with President Uhuru to negotiate for easy visa allocation for Kenyan students joining US Universities and Colleges.

“My plea to President Kenyatta as he travels to meet President Donald Trump is to negotiate for easy allocation of visas for our students joining universities there," the industrialist said in a tweet.

"Every academic year, the US enrolls over 3000 Kenyan students and I believe preferential treatment should be given to these students."

The business mogul further called on Kenya and US to link issuance of visa to trade deals such as the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) as a way of supporting and strengthening trade partnerships.

" It is also equally important that the two governments link visa issuance to trade agreements like ANGOA to support and strengthen our trade partnership. Kenya Airways will now provide regional support with their new direct flight from Nairobi to New York and this will encourage entrepreneurs to expand their trade to the US," Kirubi further said.

In a statement few weeks ago, State House Spokeswoman Kanze Dena said talks between Kenyatta and Trump will focus on trade and regional security.

"The two leaders will discuss good bilateral relationships between the two countries and plans to boost among other sectors, security, trade and investment," State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said in a statement to the press.
