Jubilee MPs Dismiss Threats by NASA to Swear-in Raila as President

A section of Jubilee Party MPs have dismissed threats by National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders to swear-in opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Led by Siaya senator James Orengo, Nasa leaders have threatened to swear-in Raila if President Uhuru takes oath of office for his second term.

However, speaking to the media on Monday, MPs Nelson Koech (Belgut), Hillary Koskei (Kipkelion East), William Cheptumo (Baringo North), William Chepkut (Ainabkoi), Julius Melly (Tinderet) and Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) termed any attempts to swear-in Raila as illegal and unlawful.

"This is a clear indication of desperation by the opposition that has found it difficult to accept the will of the people. It is high time NASA came out and told their supporters the truth that Jubilee won the election," Koech said.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi said that the President can only take Oath of Office in the presence of the Chief Justice.

The MPs further dismissed the formation of people's assembly and the calls for secession by the opposition outfit, terming it an exercise in futility.

"Even the so call People's Assemblies will not see the light of the day."

"Kenyans should not panic by the politics NASA is trying to sell. It is not the first time we are seeing such moves. When they were defeated in 2013, they came up with the idea of a referendum. You know what happened,"

"This time round after another defeat, they are talking about secession, and the so call People's Assemblies. All these will go nowhere."
