President Uhuru Sets Conditions to Participate in 2017 Presidential Debate

The Media Owners Association has set the dates for the first presidential debate for Monday, July 10, at 7:30pm while a second debate involving the presidential running mates will take place  Monday, July 17, at the same time.

The association further set the third and the final debate for Monday July 24, at 7:30pm. All debates will take place at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and will be televised live across all major Television stations in the country.

But President Uhuru has come out to set conditions in which will make him take part in the debates that will be widely televised. The head of state said that the organizers of the debates must work with him and his campaign team to set rules of engagement to avoid any inconveniences. "However such debates must be organized taking input from the candidates and working with the campaign team to agree on criteria, ground rules and dates," he said in a letter written by Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

He further said that the debates must be moderated without any bias or favor to any candidates, adding that the rules of engagement must first be agreed upon with involvement of all the candidates.
