Nairobi Man Praised for Assisting Stranded Foreigner Who Lost Passport in Nairobi

Amidst escalating anti-police protests in Nairobi, a young Kenyan man, Thithad, has garnered widespread admiration for his timely assistance to a stranded British national, Cliff Hirneisen.

This act of compassion occurs against a backdrop of civil unrest fuelled by growing frustration among Kenyan youth over alleged police brutality and systemic disenfranchisement. Hirneisen found himself in a precarious situation after reportedly losing his passport, leaving him isolated and without resources in an unfamiliar city. A video appeal posted on social media depicts Hirneisen in distress, indicating his lack of local contacts and immediate means of support.

This digital plea reached Thithad, who responded with immediate action.

Thithad's initial Swahili video update detailed Hirneisen's dire condition, and he urged viewers to contribute financially to assist him. This call to action marked the beginning of a grassroots rescue operation driven by empathy. Subsequent updates show Hirneisen sheltered in Thithad's modest residence.

Thithad has provided updates on the ongoing efforts to recover Hirneisen's passport. The narrative has resonated widely, particularly online, where Kenyans have praised Thithad's selflessness. Social media users have affectionately nicknamed him "Minister of Foreign Affairs," reflecting the respect earned through his compassionate actions.

The British High Commission in Nairobi acknowledges the incident and confirms it is providing consular assistance to Hirneisen. It further reiterates its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad while respecting Kenya's sovereignty and legal processes.
