Bad Morals: Kenyan Singer Akothee Banned from Performing in South Sudan

Controversial Kenyan singer Esther Akoth alias Akothee has reportedly been banned from performing in South Sudan.

South Sudanese media reports that Akothee had written to the country's authorities seeking permission to hold a music tour.

However, after initially granting her permission to go ahead with her tour, authorities in Africa's youngest nation have canceled the event citing moral reasons.

The decision has been made after South Sudan's top ministers led by Dr. Nadia and Makuei Lueth questioned the "Oyoyo" hit maker's morals.

“She is a bad influence and lacks self-respect. I watched her performances on YouTube and with the way she immorally behaves on stage, I conclude she is not the right musician to entertain our youth,” one news outlet quotes Dr. Nadia.

Minister Lueth says the musician is a bad role model for the young generation.

“I don’t want my kids and relatives to watch a woman spreading her legs while in pants almost exposing her genitals in the name of entertainment. That would be an erotic behavior for them to copy,” says Lueth.

A few days ago, the artist came under strong criticism from Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua and  Kenyans online.

Mutua condemned her over what he termed as "filthy and stupid stunts".

“Kenya has got talent but as long as we keep celebrating this kind of madness, our entertainment industry will never grow. Akothee is talented but the filthy and stupid stunts she has to pull to remain relevant should concern all of us. What’s worse is to see grown-up men and women celebrating this scatological obscenity in the name of entertainment,” said Mutua.

Lecture on morals from a country where people butcher each other and loot their coffers dry. The irony! Again, I personally don't care for her performance or her behavior...that said, I will support her right to do it.

You sounded educated at first but hmm. When you build a nation you don't let in the bad things but rather try to eradicate the evil. S Sudan might have been in war, Yes! But must they allow immorality to add in? and not try to stop it? I wish you'd reason..

Did not realize that south Sudan is a moral state. With the way they are killing each other you would think other wise.
Kagame asked, what was the purpose of fighting for secession and independence only to turn and kill each other".

The list of nations with a moral high hand include Myanmar, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Lybia, Southern Sudan etc. Nations that are liberal and rarely use the moral high hand include Argentina, Switzerland, Scandinavian countries, Netherlands etc. I was in Zurich not too long ago and noticed parking lots sanctioned by the city of Zurich where sex can be traded inside a private car. The police were not too far if necessary protecting both parties involved. Why do we like to pretend that acts of decadence don't happen?

At the risk of flogging a dead horse, I have heard Bishop JJ Gitahi preaching very X-rated stuff. The last one that made me cringe was him talking about penetration, in a church. If we start banning public performances of Akothe, it will be a slippery slope. I went to the very first Machakos Sevens and vowed never to return. The street display of sex by drunken youth was too much even for me. How is the government going to censure such a venue?? We simply cannot shield minors from things we deem x-rated, period.

Yaass! Kenya, I did! Now, I love me some Ben Githae's music, but when I saw what he and JJ were allegedly up to....puts me right off hawa self declared bishops, priest, etc....add them up to the list of FILTH, but in caps. Akothee actually pales in comparison when you bring them in the mix!

When an African or what Malcolm X used call Negro, compare their standard with a white man, that is where I lose respect! No wonder Africa continues to lag behind because of aping other people's standards. Happy Black History Month!

Finally someone has seen something wrong in South Sudan and has decided to do something about it. Thankyou Dr. Nadia for saving your youth from this filth!!! They will one day thank you for it.

I concur, she boasts of having mzungu boyfriends from Scandinavian countries, well, they have the Euro, she could be making more money showing her black ass to mzungu especially in this cold winter. She could be a very exotic "hoe" there and well paid too, sio kuonyesha matako ya peni mbili huku Kenya, ha haha

I know this statement did not come from South Sudan where they still have people from certain tribes walking naked. The tribe next to Ethiopia, (don’t quit remember the name) still do not wear clothes. 2ndly, converting their primary school boys to solders is what we call morals, right!

@mucang'ang'a,if it's that tribe the men jump over cattle, with their ding-dong flapping all over their legs,o ihave seen them. They are classified as Luos.Women there walk practically naked.Iguess they dont want Agothee to teach these girls not to be looked at for free.

Might be the Nuer or perhaps the Dinka. Was wondering if Dr Nadia would care to explain the naked dancing and wrestling matches with ding dongs flying, of men in Bahr El Ghazal, and where it falls in the moral spectrum. Akothee is being vilified because she appears in mass media. If she was doing a Dinka dance in nondescript Rumbek, no one would care.

And there you have it! If she was doing it in a whore club with her like, we wouldn't be talking about it, we wouldn't even know her existence and I bet the Ghazal whathave you, it is never sexual- we do not see Erect penis grinding on some cow that they wrestle and showing how you hump a cow ( sorry for my crudeness) . Perhaps we should have the Men in that Bahr whatever try that in Kiambu stadium or shopping center and see how successful that will be ! You got it, they do it in their environment( for lack of better word)and Akothee environment is what they used call whore houses.....

Good observation this Akothee is very primitive very low in morals even at media interviews she is show off idol......

Could somebody correct me if Iam wrong. My take is that if Akothee has bad morals, then should it not follow that bad morals will not be followed because the as simply bad? And in the event the "bad" filters through, what a better way to get rid of the "filth" than to bring men of the cloth there to cleanse it,and bring back the good.Is that simple .
Again my opinion is that we are giving this entertainer more credit and publicity than she is worth. Is she really that powerful to change a culture,or morals deeply rooted in a society;especially in one show? Are sudanese that "weak"?Shouldn t the good triumph over the bad? Just dont let the kids watch.
My two cents.

You are asking us to choose the lesser evil of the two? All the same in my eyes, lakini if a knife was held against my throat to choose, I would say Zodwa is at least humble in her attitude. Akothe is just vulgar and her mouth is equally nasty, so there is not much to like! Her dancing is nasty, just legs flying around. I mean that dance with her legs wide is a right turn off for a start. Looks like she is trying to push out a baby the jua kali way! Nasty is nasty. It's not cute, stop trying to shove it down our throats.

Useless comments. Let her do her thing. You want to know what’s “immoral?” Corruption. Kenyans get riled up over silly distractions like this BS, you don’t have to watch what she’s doing, she’s grown. However, while you walrus about her dancing your country is being looted, shenzi nyinyi, people don’t eat morals.

mkenya halisi (not verified)     Wed, 02/20/2019 @ 11:20pm

@Ken motley we hear you love immoral stuff. Can u please do us the honour of taking female kids yr wife for her show.

Mkenya halisi, I never said I would go, my resining IS, you have the option not to go, blame those that covered it. However, if they’re an audience for her thing, we’ll, can’t hate. Puts food on the table.

"I think up to now some ministers in South Sudan are still moving naked , but Akotee pant was on not off ahaaaaaa" I work in South Sudan have this guys have some moral standards. You might need to visit.. I'll pay all you need. It's dumping being ignorant..

Sukari (not verified)     Fri, 02/22/2019 @ 06:39am

@Royal comedian... those tribes walk half naked in the name of their cultures. We still have some tribes who walk around with no tops eg. Pokots. They don't do it for entertainment and I have full respect for them- they embrace their culture and have held on despite the pressure to conform. I have never seen a twerking Pokot or Maasai. And speaking of beauty, these tribes are unquestionably one of the best ones in Africa. Maxiley argued that men like to see a shapely woman dancing, etc.. Akothee looks more like a drag queen even when on all fours...c'mon now!

Cobz (not verified)     Fri, 02/22/2019 @ 10:57am

Well.. that's nice. We ought to regulate the junk that comes into SSD. We already have enough to deal with.. we cant allow our kids watch nudes in the names of entertainment. Yes we might have tribes that work naked but that different from a so called "modernized" human trying to sell her self! Good move Nadia. And thanks KE police for condemning her acts.

Ernest (not verified)     Fri, 02/22/2019 @ 08:35pm

having fought for years doesn't mean S. Sudan will never move on. The growth of a country be it Economicaly, socially etc. is a trasformation process that take time. S.Sudan are on the right track...at least on this issue of Akothe they are right ..she has become a disgrace to our country and the continent as a whole. All of us should condemn this highly reprehensible behaviors.

icee (not verified)     Fri, 02/22/2019 @ 10:18pm

Caring government keep it on, most of those immoral entertainers are really wiked agents of destruction of human and Godly morale, they were prepared and send from Kingdoms of DARKNESS their main targets are youths.
CAN AMERICAN GOVERNMENT COPY FROM SOUTH SUDAN THIS SINGLE SHOW OF PROTECTION OF YOUTH LIVES AND FUTURE.

I have interacted with South Sudanese, and chastity is a factor in their daily life. Keep it up. The lady in question is dirty talker and a careless actor.

Andrew (not verified)     Wed, 03/06/2019 @ 03:30am

Me thinks Akothee will be rejected both in heaven & hell!Isn't there anyone who can instill some sense in her? Parents, friends, relatives where are you? Ooh,the child is simply sick & surprisingly, you'll see her people mourning, crying at the top of their voices at her funeral!
