Popular Kenyan Musician Lady Maureen Arrested, Jailed in Tanzania for Lack of Valid Travel Documents

A renowned Kenyan musician, Lady Maureen has been arrested and jailed in the neighboring Tanzania for lack of proper travel documents.

The Benga star was arrested alongside her band, Nyar Ngato traditional dancers and are now appealing to well-wishers to help them raise Sh450,000 to pay the bail granted by the country's High court.

The artiste's close friends said that she has staged several shows in Tanzania in the past without any problems as her parents are based in the country.

However, the musician and her band were taken in by Tanzanian authorities for allegedly being in the country without valid travel documents. They are currently being held at Bukungu prison in Mwanza for the last nine days.

The team faces up to six months imprisonment if it fails to pay the bail. Lady Maureen is famed for Kenya's giant football club Gor Mahia's Kogalo song.
