Kenyan Professionals to Access More Job Opportunities in Jersey and Isle of Man Under New Deal

A newly established agreement between Jersey-based recruitment firm GR8 and the Kenyan government is poised to streamline the sourcing of skilled labour from East Africa to the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) marks a significant step towards addressing critical labour shortages across various sectors within the UK Crown dependencies. The formal agreement, signed by GR8 CEO Lee Madden and Kenya’s Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu, establishes a direct channel for Kenyan professionals seeking opportunities in healthcare, construction, hospitality, childcare, and information technology. The signing ceremony followed a high-level delegation visit from Kenya to Jersey, led by Principal Secretary Njogu.

GR8, which has been actively recruiting Kenyan talent for five years, initially concentrating on filling hospitality vacancies exacerbated by Brexit, now holds the status of a strategic recruitment partner, officially recognised by the Kenyan government. The new agreement reinforces and formalises a growing economic connection between East Africa and the Channel Islands. Madden expresses optimism that the formalised partnership would enable the company to more effectively address critical vacancies across numerous industries, emphasising the importance of adhering to ethical hiring practices.

Njogu echoes this sentiment, highlighting Kenya’s capacity to supply qualified professionals to global markets. During her visit, Njogu engaged with key figures in Jersey, including Minister for External Relations Ian Gorst, and representatives from Highlands College, the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, and the Jersey Construction Council. Discussions focused on deepening economic ties between Jersey and Kenya while ensuring adequate support systems are in place for Kenyan workers transitioning to the Crown dependencies.

Minister for Sustainable Economic Development Kirsten Morel lauds the initiative, noting its contribution to enhancing Jersey’s reputation as a desirable destination for skilled workers. The partnership is expected to create a more structured and transparent pathway for responsible employers seeking to tap into Kenya’s diverse talent pool.
