Four Kenyan MPs Blocked from Attending Diaspora Event in Minneapolis

The 2024 Diaspora Trade and Investment Summit in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has encountered significant challenges as several key speakers are reportedly prevented from attending by the Kenyan government.

The event, organized by the Association of Kenyan Diaspora Organizations, Inc., aims to foster connections between entrepreneurs, investors, government officials, and industry experts to explore trade and investment opportunities within the diaspora community. According to a message sent to the organizing committee's chairman, four members of parliament—Richard Momoima Onyonka, Okiya Omutatah, Carren Nyamu, and Dr. Manduku are unable to travel to the United States. Various reasons have been cited, including withheld passports and lack of executive clearance. The sole guest who has managed to travel is Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee who is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

Recent events have added complexity to the situation, as Senators Onyonka and Okiya have been vocal about alleged scandals involving high-ranking officials in President William Ruto's administration. These allegations, particularly concerning the controversial Adani takeover, have sparked intense debate in Kenya's media and parliament, with many citizens questioning the transparency of the 30-year leasing agreement. Despite these setbacks, the organizing committee remains committed to proceeding with the trade fair. They are actively encouraging diaspora community members to attend in large numbers, emphasizing the networking opportunities with stakeholders from various sectors, including real estate, banking, and manufacturing.

The summit, taking place at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park from September 27 to 28, carries the theme "Leveraging the Diaspora – The Frontier Gateway for Partnerships and Growth." This theme reiterates the critical role of the diaspora in promoting economic development and fostering partnerships between their adopted countries and their homeland. The event's program features a diverse range of activities, including panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions. Attendees have the opportunity to gain insights from industry experts on current trends and prospects in key sectors.

Additionally, the summit provides a platform for diaspora members to showcase their products and services, potentially attracting investors and collaborators. Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee's keynote speech is eagerly anticipated, with expectations that he will address the challenges and opportunities facing the Kenyan diaspora. The absence of the four parliamentarians has raised concerns among diaspora members, prompting questions about the Kenyan government's support for diaspora initiatives. While expressing disappointment over the travel restrictions, the organizing committee maintains a positive outlook regarding the event's overall success.

Beyond trade and investment, the summit aims to provide a forum for the diaspora community to voice concerns and seek solutions to issues affecting them. Discussions are expected to cover topics such as migration, asylum seekers, and the impact of global events on Kenyans, fostering meaningful dialogue and potential action. The 2024 Diaspora Trade & Investment Summit also seeks to strengthen the connection between the Kenyan diaspora and their homeland.

I can't belief Kenya is back to the Moi era haydays. I wish Kenyans had known who Ruto was right from the onset of Moi's brutal regime, his invilvement in Youth For Kwnu, grabiosis, murdering of children clung on their mothers' chests and backs, 2007-2008 PEV, scandals after scandals. Following the recent clash with Genz kids, his outer skin became a revelation and a testimony of his underlying characteristics with a thirst for blood. While all Kenyans leaders are bear the same characteric traits, Ruto is an extreme of them all. Like his so called "nemesis" Raila, Kalonzo, Uhuru, Mutavati, and others who belief Kenya must be read by either of them, Ruto is one of those leaders whose demise will do our country a great favor.

These tourists should fix the problems facing their local communities instead of spending their money on airlines and hotels.
There’s absolutely nothing they can help the diaspora especially if they are unable to help their own local people.

What is special with the four thugs wasting taxpayers’ millions to attend the summit in person? Why can’t they give their speeches directly from Nairobi? It’s a pity that most Kenyans are not complaining about Ruto’s flying to campaign for muuaji Raila. But I wish you start MOURNING early as your conman/murderous/cannibal evil old boy will loose.

I am wondering why 6.2m fools okayed an expensive constitution full of errors.A standard four pupil at Unjinga primary school BONDO(sitting as a judge) will straight away set aside Rigathi’s impeachment on the grounds of MOUNTAINIAN visits.Mlima is part of Kenya where he is VP.All the other grounds can only be decided after criminal trial.

These ones out to increase their take home thru abnormal travel allowance and food allowance. No developed nations allocates such abnormal allowances. Only poverty stricken Kenya does it without a blink

They fear Onyonka will come and tell the world that Kenya is a crime scene. Ruto flies 24/7 all over the world to avoid the tension that is in Kenya.
