Kenyans to Send Cash Across Networks as Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom Link Mobile Money Platforms

The three leading telecommunications companies in Kenya - Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom - have announced a new deal that allows customers to easily transact cash through mobile money platforms across networks.
In an advertisement placed in local newspapers on Tuesday, the three mobile service providers said that cash sent will be credited directly to the receiver’s mobile money account.
“The customer can make a withdrawal from their own network agent and will not be pressured to withdraw the money within 7 days,” the advert reads.
In the new deal, customers will send cash directly to other networks from the mobile money menu.
For instance, on the mySafaricom App, Safaricom has added a new option of “Send to Other Networks”. The amount sent must be more than Sh100 and there will be no extra transaction charges.
“The only condition for enjoying interoperability is that the customer must be registered for either T-Kash, Airtel Money or MPesa. Customers who are not registered on any monbile money will continue to receive voucher codes,” the statement adds.

Something positive for wanjiku to celebrate until the government comes up with another dubious tax code, 'money transfer across network tax'.
