Construction of SGR Line between Naivasha and Kisumu to Cost Kenyans Sh380 Billion

The construction of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line between Naivasha Kisumu will cost Kenyans Sh380 billion, a State House operative has revealed.

The cost is Sh53 billion more than the Sh327 billion used to complete the first phase of the line between Mombasa and Nairobi.

In a tweet, State House Director of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication Dennis Itumbi said Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure James Macharia would lead a Kenyan delegation to China to secure funding for the Naivasha to Kisumu section of the modern railway.

"Transport CS @JamesMacharia_ will lead delegation to China that will secure SGR financing from Naivasha to Kisumu. @KenyaRailways_ @SGRHeadOffice - Ksh. 380bn to be signed. #GOKThisWeek," Itumbi said in a tweet.

The 255-kilometre line is the third phase of the SGR and is set to push the total cost of mega project to Sh867 billion. The phase 2B will snake through four counties, namely; Narok, Bomet, Kericho and Kisumu.

The construction of phase 2A of the line between Nairobi and Naivasha is currently ongoing and will cost Sh150 billion. The section is expected to be complete by June, 2019.

The line has been described as the biggest infrastructural project in the history of the country.

This SGR project should be stopped imediately. It should stop in Nairobi.
The game they are playing here will not work. In fact it has already backfired.

That’s cash include compensation for the lands where sgr is passing by as far as Am concern.I have said it here that many here commenting from Diaspora ran away from their countries juu there were no roads, electricity, jobs or good transport systems.Chinese r here n they have bin offering it through loans which WE Kenya’s especially who r leaving in this Kenya r willing to pay aslong as iko n we can access it.Many Diasporas pay lots of Taxes every 2 weeks or pay period to pay loans which r in trillions to their respective countries n they will pay them mpaka wakufe or they decide to return home that’s the truth???But it seems the Diasporas hawataki nchi yetu iendeleee. For your info Americans owe Chinese more than 7 trillion $$ n their borrowing is over 200% n yet wanaendelea kukopa.Australia n UK owes Chinese trillions na bado wanakopa??
