The government chemist on Thursday declared Nuteez peanut butter unfit for human consumption.
In a certificate of analysis, government chief chemist Johansen Oduor says that the product has been found to contain high levels of aflatoxins.
Oduor says Nuteez contains 24.08ppb of aflatoxins, which is 10ppb higher than the recommended limit.
“The peanut butter exceeds the maximum required limit for total aflatoxins (10ppb) hence not fit for human consumption,” the government chemist analysis reads.
Aflatoxin-producing fungi, Aspergillus, are widely spread in nature and have severely contaminated human and animal food, resulting in health hazards and even death.
Aflatoxins cause diseases such as aflatoxicosis in animals and humans throughout the world.

iko mingi nanishida kuisha.
Glad you were honest enough to include building materials thus indicting yourself. How do you suppose we can curb importing building materials besides just not taking a plane to go to China to get doors, windows etc and instead support jua kali young men and women who are very capable of making the same.Is it not fair to say that it is the likes of you who are busy running Kenya to the ground while diasporians who you constantly attack are busy doing doubles sending money home and in so doing helping to keep that poor shilling afloat so you can then take it out of the country(to China) to buy your materials, crushing the jua kali industry and diminishing chances of jobs creation. No wonder your song for China are the loudest.
Very true: THESE foreign foods HAVE cancer big-time.😞 .... Australia, usa,uk,France, dubai ARE leading with cancers from food which is full with chemicals.😬
Kenyans, chasing Western foods at the expense of your traditional ones will kill you. Eat nduma, gwaci and mihogo for breakfast and such issues will be past tense. Moreover, the former may be more nutritious than the toxic foods from the West.
Wakenya na MATUMBO Vitambi zao Tamaa watakusikia? Hehehe!!!😂😂😂
One of many products unfit for human use and consumption....
So now we have the major fast food chains which have been discovered in the first World countries as a cause for the deadliest diseases known to mankind now clamoring for the third world market including Kenya. Kazi yetu imekuwa ni kuambiwa tu, kula hii, usikule hii. Everything down to our precious "Chai" na mkate na mayai na sausage as the "Perfect" breakfast recipe. When you come to the western world and people don't go crazy about milk or any of it's by-products, we think that there's something wrong with them. Yet milk is about 80% puss. Milk as an example of many other harmful products is meant to primarily fatten a newborn calf to over 700lbs and no forget that widespread claim of strong bones and teeth. Making us- human beings the only species to feed on infant food past the age of infancy. Ever wonder why some people's body become lactose intolerant after taking milk throughout their infancy? Don't even get me started on cheese or chicken, or prok and their effects. So while companies and individuals here in the US or UK will sound off a warning and reveal these facts, companies in kenya will continue to manufacture these products and distributing them to both an uninformed population and a corrupt and "dont-care" one. Bora hongo, watu wakufe tu. Aki Kenya iko na shida mob, jamani.
Weee not all cheese is created Equal ! I stand by a well aged cheese and its benefits.
How did the peanut butter get on the market in the first place? Was if initially safe for consumption then somebody changed the horse while in the race?
Mgeni, while you are correct in the idea that we should think about and be careful of what we eat and that the west may be revising our thoughts on what has been considered "healthy", I would like to correct somethings. Human have not just started drinking milk. Groups like Maasai and others in Africa and elsewhere in the world have had milk as a significant part of their diet for probably a couple of thousands years. I doubt they have a milk-related health crisis.
I do agree with you though that I also find that we Kenyans are discovering and loving what is now been shunned in the west. For example, probably due to more and more people rising to the middle class, I have noticed the emphasis on eating sausage etc for breakfast and chicken, chips, burgers, pizzas, and other high-fat foods on almost a daily basis. It's good that one can afford these but these should not be eaten everyday. Some people may not know but many western countries have banned tobacco advertising and even restricted heavily on smoking areas. Basically, moving a way from consumption of things that defined normal life some decades ago based on current understanding. We shouldn't just follow the west blinding, but there are areas where they have been that we should just learn from them and not experience be our teacher (quite expensive to learn this way).
ONYANGO SHIKA DEM KAMATA PAAAA.
I hear( not that I know of) that foreign goods have specifications eg "african market" " western Europe" eastern Europe" "domestic china" "Americas", "UsA" etc.
So not every product in the world is created equal for all the market. Its a bad case of willing buyer willing seller when the buy is exposed to danger. It is simple, consumers in kenya cut the appetite for foreign delicacies if you cannot afford the market price for the original product. Conspicuous consumption is our major folly, such that we do not ask for full value of our hard earned money or easily stolen loot when we buy from foreigners.
Asante sana ndugu Oduor kwa kupiga marufuku chakula cha kigeni ambacho kinaweza kuwadhuru wananchi wasiojua.
