Deputy President William Ruto has responded to National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga's speech at the Center for Strategic and International (CSIS) headquarters in Washington DC.
Delivering his speech during the forum at the CSIS on Thursday, the opposition leader lamented that President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto were turning the country into a dictatorship.
Raila said Jubilee was planning to extend its reign with the DP, who will be contesting for the presidency in 2022 general election.
“Kenya matters, at least it did then. In this crisis though, the US and other pro-democratic friends chose to avert their gaze from the unfolding election lawlessness and continued against all the evidence to support a deeply tainted electoral process,” said that Opposition leader during his speech.
He added: “All of this progress is been imperiled by our current crisis triggered by the third straight rigged elections. The regime wants to hold on to power… let me be blunt, Kenya is hurtling towards an outright dictatorship, the Jubilee government has looted every institution in order to achieve goal of long-term control of the state to at least 2032.”
In a rejoinder, Deputy President William Ruto accused Raila Odinga of running to the US to marshal support to scuttle his plan of being President after President Uhuru's exit.
“So, Tinga went all the way to the USA to seek support to scuttle the possibility of a son of peasant from being elected prezo in 2022! Balaa!” DP Ruto posted on his twitter handle.
Raila asked US and other Western nations to help Kenya come out of the current political crisis by piling pressure on Jubilee government to agree to a fresh presidential election.
