Gachagua Pledges to Build Mausoleum for Late MP Johana Ng’eno
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to personally fund the construction of a mausoleum at the grave of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno in Mogondo, Narok County.
Gachagua made the pledge on Friday during a visit to Ng’eno’s family, where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence at the gravesite. Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash in February and was buried in March. The grave has remained exposed to the elements since the burial. Ng’eno’s mother, Mary Temas, appealed to leaders to build a permanent structure to protect it from the rain.
“We want this place to be built so that rain doesn’t fall over the grave,” she said.
Gachagua responded by promising to finance the mausoleum personally. He said he would ask designers to prepare a plan based on the family’s wishes.
The family is expected to meet to agree on the design and determine the estimated cost before presenting the plans to Gachagua. He said construction should begin without delay, describing the project as a tribute to Ng’eno, whom he regarded as a close friend.
Gachagua was accompanied by Nyandarua Senator John Methu and former Ol Kalou MP Sammy Douglas Waweru. They joined the family in paying their respects at the gravesite.
During the visit, Gachagua also alleged that promises made by President William Ruto to Ng’eno’s mother during the burial had not been fulfilled. He further raised concerns about the circumstances of the helicopter crash, including questions surrounding the aircraft’s refuelling and safety procedures.
After the visit to the family, Gachagua addressed residents at a Democracy for Citizens Party rally in Mogondor Centre. Police presence was increased in the area following unrest at a recent DCP gathering in Nakuru County.
The mausoleum project is expected to be watched closely by Ng’eno’s family and residents of Emurua Dikirr as plans for its construction take shape.
