Kenyan Woman Accused of Taking Money to Let German Tourist Exploit Her Teenage Daughter

Detectives in Mombasa are investigating a woman over claims she assisted a German tourist in exploiting her 16-year-old daughter for financial gain.

Authorities are examining mobile phone records that may reveal payments exchanged between the mother and the foreign national. The suspect, Traumer Reinhard, also known locally as “Mzungu,” was arrested on 24 February at an apartment in Nyali, Mombasa County.

He was initially charged with defilement when presented at Shanzu Law Courts on 27 February, but prosecutors later amended the charges to include trafficking offences. Reinhard is accused of recruiting, transporting, and harbouring the minor for exploitation, including sexual abuse.

He has denied the allegations and is currently out on bail of Sh500,000 with one surety. Court documents indicate that the girl’s mother, identified as C.W., may have helped facilitate the crime by using her elder daughter’s identification documents to present the minor as an adult.

Investigators suspect she received money from Reinhard in exchange for handing over her child. C.W. was arrested but later released on police cash bail while detectives continue their inquiry.

The case has been transferred from the Bamburi Tourist Police Unit to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit. Detectives have applied for court orders to carry out forensic examinations of mobile phones seized from Reinhard, the minor, and her mother.

The devices are believed to contain evidence, including communications and financial transactions, that could demonstrate coordination between the suspects.
According to the charges, Reinhard allegedly defiled the minor between 7 and 24 February and trafficked her between 13 and 25 February.
