Kenyans Duped in Alleged Overseas Job Scam

A recent raid at Amble Beginning Consult Limited in Nairobi has cast a shadow over the company's operations, raising concerns about its legitimacy and sparking investigations into potential fraudulent activities.

On February 1, 2023, four employees of Amble Beginning were apprehended by Ms. Sheila Kavaya who affirmed to be an officer acting on behalf of frustrated job seekers seeking refunds. The four were; Mr Dedan Mureithi, Ms Beatrice Nzioka, Ms Rose Njeri and Ms Martha Wangui. This incident exposes a web of accusations and counter-accusations, with Ms Kavaya alleging extortion by the company owner Mr Alphonce Kioko. However, Mr Kioko has denied the claims, presenting evidence of Ms Kavaya's alleged involvement in bribery with M-pesa messages of money totalling Sh565,000. Ms Kavaya has refuted the claims, saying that the amount was a refund for a frustrated client.

However, the core concern lies in the plight of numerous clients who approached Amble Beginning with hopes of securing overseas jobs. Many, like Mr. EK, were lured by advertisements promising opportunities in various countries, ranging from caregiver positions in the UK to teaching jobs in the US. They entrusted the company with significant sums, often exceeding Sh200,000, but months later, their promised dreams remain unfulfilled. Adding to their woes, Amble Beginning appears to have undergone name changes and location shifts, further raising suspicions about their motives.

Mr. EK recounts how the company, initially operating under the name Frac and Calp, relocated and rebranded as Amble Beginning, leaving their clients in the lurch. Reports indicate that at least 32 individuals have come forward, claiming financial losses due to Amble Beginning's alleged fraudulent practices. The matter has been officially reported to the authorities with case files opened at both Capitol Hill and Central Police Stations. While formal testimonies are yet to be collected, investigations are underway.
