Moi's Grandson Collins Toroitich Faces Contempt Charges in Child Custody Dispute

Former President Daniel Moi's grandson Collins Kibet is facing contempt of court charges brought by his ex-wife Gladys Jeruto Tagi.

The charges stem from his alleged failure to comply with court orders to support their two children. Nakuru Chief Magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion has summoned Collins Kibet Toroitich Moi to explain his failure to adhere to the court's orders. Last year, the court instructed Kibet to cover the expenses for the children's education, medical needs, and entertainment, amounting to Sh1.5 million per year.

Ms. Tagi claims that Kibet has neglected his responsibilities, leaving her to bear the financial burden alone, despite the court's orders. According to Ms Tagi, she has spent a total of Sh2.8 million on the children since the court's directive on June 2, 2022, covering their education, medical bills, and entertainment for nearly two years. The court documents reveal that Ms Tagi has allocated Sh1.2 million to education expenses, Sh600,000 to medical costs, and Sh1 million to entertainment.

She now demands that Kibet reimburse these expenses and fulfil his paternal duties. She urges the court to hold him in contempt and impose penalties. Principal Magistrate Benjamin Limo ruled in favour of Ms Tagi, ordering Kibet to fully assume the responsibility for the children's education, medical insurance, and a portion of their entertainment expenses.

Ms Tagi claims that she has been solely responsible for their children since 2012, alleging that Kibet abandoned them. Kibet's denial of being the father was proven false by a court-ordered DNA test. He then agreed to provide NHIF coverage for the children, citing financial difficulties. The case is scheduled to be heard on February 21.
