Police Invite Public Opinion on Proposed Changes in Uniform

The National Police Service (NPS) is planning to engage the public on proposed alterations to police uniforms.

NPS is planning to hold a public participation exercise for three days in varying locations each day to gather feedback on the proposed modifications. The suggested modifications have received a mix of approval from some, while others require the removal of pockets to hinder corrupt officers from acquiring bribes. If the changes are approved, officers will revert to the old uniform of sky-blue shirts and navy blue pants, albeit with the addition of the national flag and police service logo on the arms.

The previous uniform was phased out during the tenure of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi. In February, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome was pictured wearing a light blue shirt during a meeting with his deputy, Noor Gabow. Meanwhile, the Inspector General has also promised salary increments for police officers starting August 2023.

The police force is set to receive a pay increase as a result of negotiations between the National Police Service and the Remuneration Commission. The police Inspector General, Hillary Mutyambai Koome, has stated that talks with the commission will continue to ensure that officers receive fair compensation. Under a newly signed remuneration and benefits package, police officers in various job categories will receive increased salaries ranging from Sh1,255 to Sh11,249, while support staff in different job groups can expect pay hikes between Sh2,300 and Sh11,020.

Please dont be quick to put that Sh 11,020 into dollars and disparage them. This is what our economy can afford to pay them. However, I would prefer Mpigs salary slashed by 30%,and given to the police,in addition to the paltry they just got.
It should also be noted that high pay does not always correlate to better work out put. That comes from work ethics, and integrity.
Transparency International still ranks the police force as the most corrupt entity in the country. What is Mutyambia doing to get off this shameful ranking?
As for the uniforms, what they have now is just fine.We know who they are.

The uniform before Mulevi Wanjohi changed to a Joe the Plumber uniform is still the bomb! Unfortunately, Joe the Plumber is now dead, we don’t need those uniforms anymore, ugly!!!
