Martha Karua: UK’s Covid-19 Vaccine Should First be Tested on Kenyan Cabinet Members, Senior Gov’t Officials

Nark-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has reacted to reports that scientists from the United Kingdom are considering trialing their Covid-19 vaccine in Kenya.

It was reported on Friday that the researchers from Oxford University have identified Kenya as their alternative location to test the vaccine if they fail to get desired results in the UK.

But on Friday, the government through Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman said it was not aware of such plans as no official communication has been made on the same.

“We do not have any communication on this at the moment but if and when we do, there are certain laid out procedures which must be followed,” said Aman.

“Should the team from Oxford reach out to the Kenyan government, then there is a very robust process to be followed by the pharmacy and poisons board before the vaccine can be approved for a clinical trial.”

Through Twitter on Saturday, Karua said if the Health Ministry approves the UK scientists’ plan to test the vaccine in Kenya, then top government officials led by members of the cabinet and their families should be first in line.

“Now that @MOH_Kenya says Kenya is open to testing of British vaccines in Kenya let them be tested on members of the cabinet and their families and thereafter all elected representatives and senior government officials,” Karua tweeted.

Kenyans have questioned the criteria the researchers used to settle on Kenya given that the country’s number of Covid-19 cases is still low as compared to other countries in Europe and Asia.

The first human trial in Europe of a Covid-19 vaccine began on Thursday in the UK, where two volunteers—both scientists—were injected.

The two are the first of the more than 800 adults, aged between 18 and 55 years, who have been recruited for the study.

Excellent Hon. Martha. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Let the testing start from their territory. They too have bodies for injections. They are made of flesh and not stone just like the rest of us. If Kenya allows for the testing, let us all be guinea pigs.

No vaccinations!! In this case, government should not make everyone's decision. Every citizen must be allowed to make their own decision. It is our body. The government allowed people with Corona virus to come to Kenya without being quarantined ( 239 Chinese-Moabites). Our souls are not for sale.
We need to fast and pray, first to our God and to our forefathers for protection from enemies of black man both within and without that they may be destroyed before they destroy our people!!

The poison is in the vaccine!!! This time nothing coming from Western nations in form of vaccines or medicine should be given to black man.
All our enemies have been revealed by the Corona virus. Once we have known our enemies, we must take responsibility and act accordingly. No more ignorance. If they say no schools without the vaccine, we educate our own.
No vaccines for Africans!!!

Karua you are fast becoming the common Wanjiku worrior against Western sleazy vaccines. You fought to have multiparty instituted in the country in the 80's and now you are fighting for the Kenyan whose body has been used in the past as a guinea pig for Western vaccines. God help us. Continue fighting daughter of the soil.
