11 Kenyan MPs Who Made Unauthorized Trip to Somalia Freed

11 Kenyan MPs who made an unauthorized trip to Somalia on Saturday have been freed after they were questioned by police.

Six of the MPs are from Mandera, three from Wajir and two from Garissa County.

On Sunday, police camped at Wilson Airport in Nairobi waiting to arrest and question them upon arrival but the MPs landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) aboard a chartered plane.

They were questioned at JKIA and freed hours later with police indicating that no charges will be pressed against them, according to Daily Nation.

They include Kullow Maalim (Banisa), Ahmed Kolosh (Wajir West), Ibrahim Abdi (Lafey), Rashid Kassim (Wajir East), Mohammed Hire (Lagdera), Omar Salah Maalim and (Mandera East).

Others are Bashir Abdullahi (Mandera North), Adan Haji (Mandera West), Adan Ali Sheikh (Mandera South), Mohamed Dahir (Dadaab) and Ahmed Bashane (Tarbaj). Earlier reports had indicated that the group comprised eight MPs.

The MPs had traveled to Mogadishu without informing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Speaker of the National Assembly as required.

Speaking after their release, MP Kassim said they held a meeting with Somali President Mohamed Farmajo for talks on how to deal with the constant attacks carried out by al-Shabaab in the Northeastern Kenya region.

It's not as if they didn't know there's protocol, what they did deserve to be handled with utmost seriousness! They'd better be interrogated for further investigations & be held responsible in case we're attacked by terrorists! They could be terrorist sympathisers who knows!
