Dennis Itumbi Charged with Publishing Fake Letter about DP William Ruto’s Murder Plot

Blogger Dennis Itumbi was on Tuesday charged afresh over accusations of authoring and publishing a fake document alleging there was a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

The charge sheet read that Itumbi and his co-accused Samwel Gateri Wanjiru, on or before June 20th, 2019, published a letter dated May 30th, 2019 with intent to cause anxiety to the general public.

The two denied the charges before Magistrate Martha Mutuku and were released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

Investigations into the letter allegedly established that it was drafted at a cyber cafe in Lang’ata area, Nairobi.

Kenyan detectives sought the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to investigate the source of the fake document, according to Citizen Digital.

The letter alleged that a series of meetings had been held at Hotel La Mada on Thika Road with the main agenda being a plot to eliminate DP Ruto.

It claimed that four Cabinet Secretaries including Peter Munya, Sicily Kariuki, Joe Mucheru, and James Macharia were among leaders who attended the said meetings.

The four CSs rubbished the allegations terming them as “wild and “unsubstantiated.” They spoke after they were summoned to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters to record statements over the allegations.

The hearing of the case is slated for November 18th, 2019.
